The Alpha Nu Pi chapter holds two inductions per academic year, one each fall and spring semester. We accept applications all year round. Applications will be processed for the next upcoming induction, provided it is submitted in time to meet that induction’s deadline. Otherwise, it will be processed the following semester.
The application deadline for Fall 2013 is 5 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013. This means all application materials (as outlined below) must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, including transcripts of all previous institutions attended if you are a new transfer student in your first academic year at WMU.
All applications received after 5 p.m. on Friday, November 1, will be processed for Spring 2014 consideration.
Who Can Join?
Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students at Western Michigan University who are interested in any or all of the academic disciplines comprising English studies. Students interested in English studies who wish to join a community of their intellectual peers and believe that they meet the academic qualifications are invited to apply for membership in the Alpha Nu Pi chapter at WMU. Read on for application information!
Cost of Lifetime Membership
An individual lifetime membership in Sigma Tau Delta costs $50, including local chapter dues ($8) and the national organization fee ($42). We understand that money is tight these days. However, we encourage you to think about what you are getting for this membership fee. You are getting a LIFETIME membership — you pay once and never have to pay again. You are able to submit works to the NATIONAL conference and publication — a great way to build your resume! And, you are eligible to apply for national scholarships — all of which are very generous, and which WMU students have a nasty habit of WINNING!

Special Application Information for Transfer Students:
We invite transfer students to apply for membership to Sigma Tau Delta, but those who have not been at WMU long enough to amass the minimum number of completed credit hours required for membership or the minimum number of courses in English at the 2000 level, or both, as well as those who do not yet have a GPA at WMU, are required to provide transcripts from all previous institutions attended.
In order to be considered for induction, transfer students in their first year at WMU will need to provide transcripts from all previous institutions attended to our faculty advisor.
Our faculty advisor, Dr. Lisa Minnick, will accept transcripts in electronic form, emailed to lisa.minnick AT wmich.edu, provided they are in a common format that is easily opened (such as pdf). Alternatively, you may drop paper copies off for her (please place them in an envelope with Dr. Minnick’s name on it) with Ms. Laura Decker or Ms. Pam Mottley at the English office on the 6th floor of Sprau Tower. Unofficial copies are fine.
If you cannot obtain your transcripts by the semester’s specified application date, we encourage you to apply the following semester for membership.
